Headquarters Shift Duties
The primary responsibility of the Headquarters Committee is to prepare the food that will be served in the Hospitality Tent.
We provide three meals a day for over 500 people including professional athletes, sponsors, and Wildflower Committee members.
Headquarters is located in the festival area, in trailer seven, next to the information booth. It is accessible from Beach
City by Eagle I (available only in the mornings), van, or foot. Keep in mind that it takes 40-45 minutes to reach Headquarters
from Beach City on foot, so plan accordingly. If you're not going to get up early and get a ride on the shuttle make sure to
leave early enough so you arrive on time if you're walking. While on duty, your meals will be provided for you in the
committee area.
Duties
- Preparing lunch and dinner for the Wildflower committee and VIP Guests
- Setting up and cleaning up for all meals
- Preparing sack lunches and boxed dinners for committee members (as needed)
- Transporting food and supplies to Cabana tent located at finish line
- Transporting food from prep trailer to VIP tent
- Washing dishes
Rules
- Each volunteer is required to work two shifts: one on Saturday and one on either Friday or Sunday.
- Volunteers must be well groomed and presentable as they will be highly visible to sponsors and other VIP Guests in the Hospitality Tent.
- Volunteers that fail to show up for any of their shifts will be asked to leave Wildflower and charged $20. Their group will not be asked to volunteer at Wildflower again.
Schedules/Shifts
Each Volunteer must work a minimum of 12 hours. There are four shifts at Headquarters:
- Shift 1 Friday 3 PM to 9 PM
- Shift 2 Saturday 9 AM to 3 PM
- Shift 3 Saturday 3 PM to 9 PM
- Shift 4 Sunday 9 AM to 3 PM
FYI
- Volunteers and guests must arrive between 9 AM and 9 PM on Friday and may not leave until 3 PM on Sunday. No exceptions!
- Your group representative needs to attend a meeting at the Info Tent in Beach City at 5 PM on Friday.
- Make sure you have your Cal Poly ID with you or you will not be allowed in the gate.
- Any guests coming up with you must be pre-registered with a group, and must arrive in the same car as a volunteer.
- Absolutely no hard alcohol, glass, kegs, pets, or boats!
- Beach City will be closed from 8 AM to 2 PM on both Saturday and Sunday. We suggest packing a backpack with everything that you'll need during that time and watching the race or hanging out in the festival area.
- Be sure to bring sunscreen, a sleeping bag, camping essentials, a camera, a valid ID, and food for Friday night (unless you are working Shift 1) and Sunday lunch (unless you are working Shift 4), as well as snacks. All other meals will be provided for you as a volunteer.
