Timing Shift Duties

What Timing Does:

  • In charge of making sure every athlete tests the chip issued to him or her.
  • Timing sets up and takes down all of the equipment needed to track athlete's times.
  • In charge of the back-up timing and highlighting numbers of athletes without chips.
  • At the start line, we will remind them that their chip needs to be properly secured to the ankle or the athlete will not be accounted for and will not receive a time.
  • Assist to make sure all chips and ankle bracelets gets returned to us, washed and strung in groups of 200 (chips) and 50 (ankle bracelets) on a string and zip tie.

Shift Descriptions:


Equipment Managers:

  • Make sure that none of the timing equipment at your location is tampered with.
  • Make sire only athletes participating in the present event are crossing over the timing mats.

Equipment Managers:

  • At the registration booth, make sure every athlete has tested his or her chip on the timing mat.
  • Help with the breakdown of the Chip Check tent in the evening.
  • Maintain crowd control at registration booth.
  • Help direct athletes with problems to the complaint booth.

Back-up Timers:

  • Call out and record times for every athlete crossing the transition mats and finish line.
  • Highlight the numbers of the athletes without chips.
  • If all equipment fails, we rely on you for all the finish times!

Chip Collectors:

  • At the finish line, make sure every chip and bracelet is returned.
  • Help with washing and organizing chips and bracelets as they return.
  • Racers will be charged $30 if their chip is not returned.

Volunteer Central Meeting Place: Report to the Finish Line Area thirty minutes prior to beginning of shift. Be on time!


Volunteer Check-out Procedures:

  • Clean campsite and take ALL TRASH to dumpsters located in the Beach City parking lot.
  • Find a committee member to confirm that your campsite is clean.
  • Clean area around and underneath your vehicle (if parked in Beach City)

NOBODY WILL LEAVE BEACH CITY UNTIL HIS/HER CAMPSITE HAS BEEN CLEANED!
